Just a few weeks ago, with six suitcases and a cat in tow, I left Poland and made the move back to my home state. Although I miss many friends I made, and not to mention the excitement of planning European excursions every few weeks, nothing feels better than being back on American soil.
One thing that I greatly missed while abroad was home-cooked meals--not just any home-cooked meals; I mean Southern-straight-off-the-farm-soul-food home cooked meals.
Although turnip greens, creamed corn and smothered pork chops frequent my family's kitchen table, we decided to take a road trip further south for the Memorial Day weekend.
About four hours from Little Rock is Greenwood, MS, a small Southern town in the Mississippi Delta. No wonder it was chosen as the filming location for
The Help, as it seems to be somewhat stuck decades in the past as you walk down one street of extraordinarily quaint shops.
Although we
did drive around hunting down Hilly's house from the film, we went to Greenwood for what it's most known for: the Viking Cooking School.
